The Japanese Medaka and Zebrafish Meeting is the annual meeting for people who are interested in basic and applied science in medaka, zebrafish and all the other aquatic animals. In 2012, the 18th JMZM takes place in Kyoto City, Japan. The organizers welcome all the participants from around the world who wish to share this opportunity by exchanging research results, experiences and ideas. (

because there are few restaurants around the meeting site. Please

Registration and abstract submission(Abstract submission: The deadline of abstract submission was extended to July 20, 2012. Registration: Because the maximum number of seats of the Shiran Kaikan is not very large, early registration is highly recommended. )
We are pleased to announce that the 18th Japanese Medaka and Zebrafish Meeting will be held in Kyoto on September 22 to 23, 2012. As in the last meeting, biologists using medaka, zebrafish and other model fish species are welcome to attend from all over the world. We are also delighted to have Dr. Phil Ingham (Singapore) and Dr. Anming Meng (China) as the keynote speakers.
All the meeting activities will be held in English. ~30 oral presentation slots are available. To submit your abstract, please follow the instruction below.
To facilitate active discussions by non-native speakers of English, questions and answers may be supplemented by comments in Japanese when necessary.
For a participant who wishes to present her/his work, fill in both the
registration form and the abstract submission form and send them to
the18th JMZM office.
For a participant who does not present her/his work, fill the registration form only and send it to the18th JMZM office.
The form(s) should be sent to the 18th JMZM office (smallfish2012@frontier.kyoto-u.ac.jp) as an attached file(s).
The file name of the form should contain your name.

Oral presentation
Time: 10 min. presentation and 2 min. discussion. (9/18 update)
Language: English (You are allowed to use Japanese in discussion.)
*Please bring your own PC or Mac for your presentation.
Organizing committee provide a MiniD-sub15 pin connecting cable. If you require an adaptor for this please bring your own.
Please come to the Oral presentation room and check your presentation file at the presenter's desk.
Your time for checking slides is indicated in the acceptance email for the oral presentation.
Poster presentation
Discussion time: 1st day 19:00-20:30 (in parallel with the Mixer)
Language: English (You allow to use Japanese in discussion.)
The board size: 90 cm (width) x 210 cm (height).
*Check your poster number in the abstract book and mount your poster on the board with your poster number.
Please mount your poster before the first session of the 1st day and keep your poster on the board throughout the meeting.

You have to make your flight arrangements and schedule as soon as possible. Please fill in the "Information sheet (

.pdf)," and send it to us by e-mail (smallfish2012@frontier.kyoto-u.ac.jp) with a photocopy of your passport at your earliest convenience.
Please note that it is recommended that you send us the required document and information sooner, as the approval of visa may sometime require
1 month or longer.
Travel support
Students and participants from abroad who will make a presentation (oral or poster) in the meeting can apply the travel support. Awardees will be selected by the meeting organizers. Applicants from Tohoku area, who are suffering from the recent Tohoku Region Pacific Coast Earthquake, will have a priority. The extent of support will be determined depending on the number of applicants.
